Peonia Erbacea

Double flower lactifloras

The peonies traditionally grown in our gardens belong to this category and they are usually called Chinese peonies. The peonies in this category selected for our collection are characterized by very strong stems; otherwise, these plants have a tendency to bend under the weight of the flowers.

'Chippewa' (Murawska 1943):

Double flowers. The bright red petals do not fade into purple as it happens with other varieties, yellow stamens peep out of the petals making a peculiar contrast. The very tall stems support the flowers very well. This plant is strong and remarkably resistant to harsh conditions.

'Clemenceau' (Dessert, 1920):

Double rounded flowers; the center is made of many small nude petals with a polished look. Scented. Strong plants with a very late flowering.

Double flower, intense pink and scented. one of the oldest breeded varieties known, abundant blooming and with an amazing bright green foliage.

‘Festiva Maxima’ (Miellez, 1851):

This old variety of lactiflora is still of considerable interest for its beauty. The double white flowers sometimes have small crimson veins on the edge of the petals. Strong scent. Vigorous and fast growing plant.

‘Jay Cee’ (Klehm 1959):

The double full flowers are intense purple-pink. Medium sized plant. Early flowering.

‘Kansas (Bigger 1940):

Very large double flowers, with bright purple red petals. Slightly scented. Healthy and vigorous plant with strong straight stems. Mid-season flowering. One of the best red varieties, it was awarded the gold medal from the American Peony Society in 1968.

‘Madame Edouard Doriat’ (Doriat 1924):

The full double flowers have white petals with sporadic crimson veins. Strong scent. Mid-season flowering.

Very large  creamy pink full double flowers, held on strong stems, are nicely offset by shiny bottle green foliage. Perfect as a cut flower. Fragrant. Late bloom.

‘Mrs Franklin D. Roosvelt'. (Franklin 1932):

Large double flowers; the pale rose petals are shaped as a cup and they tend to fade into white when in full sun. Strong scent. Late flowering, tall, vigorous plant. Gold medal from the American Peony Society in 1948.

‘Moon River’ (Klehm):

The very large full double flowers are pale rose. Dark leaves and strong stems. Late flowering.

Rounded double flowers; the petals are ivory when blooming and, with time, fade into white. The medium sized plants are outstandingly resistant. Scented. Late flowering.
